Hi! How are you? Leo is napping, I’m drinking coffee #2, and Adam made us eggs. Quiet time is rare around here, and I often find myself missing it, already ten steps ahead before the moment has ended. I think it’s because my brain is still adjusting to juggling more variables as a new mom; I sit down to meditate, but I’m also thinking about when the baby might wake up. I sit down to write, but I’m also thinking about how quickly he is outgrowing his current clothes and if I should order new ones and did I wipe down the high chair after breakfast and, wait, should I be using a different non-toxic cleaning spray and what is in non-toxic cleaning spray anyway? Etc, etc. I’m trying to be better about really sitting in the quiet moments – however brief they may be – before letting myself get swept back up in all the rest. Even a ten minute reset is better than none!
Speaking of resetting – here is a roundup of some of my favorite things from the last few weeks. Some relaxing, some not. Enjoy your weekend. ❤️
I’m still deep in my The Tortured Poets Department discovery phase. I think this album is some of Taylor’s best work and I’m glad I didn’t let the Internet peer pressure me into binge listening to the whole thing in one night. I’m having a really nice time slowly uncovering new favorites – The Bolter, imgonnagetyouback, Peter, Clara Bow, and So High School were on repeat yesterday, but who’s to say what today will bring? There’s really a song for everyone; Leo loves I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. (Or maybe he just likes my dance moves?)
Last month I appeared on
’ podcast and we had such a great chat about sobriety, mommy wine culture, the evolution of friendships in your twenties, and more. You can listen to our episode here. Cam also recently launched her Substack, Fill Your Cup, and it’s a great read for anyone interested in a closer look at motherhood and mental health with plenty of fun recommendations sprinkled in.The struggle to find a supportive and cute sports bra is *real* when you’re on the bustier side. I’ve been on the hunt for new ones since having the baby because my sizing has changed and these two are officially my favorite options. 🍐
If you’re looking for a show that will both emotionally disturb and captivate you, look no further than Under the Bridge, a new Hulu miniseries based on a book of the same name. I can’t say that I’m “liking” this show because it’s pretty upsetting overall, but it’s really well-done. Based on true events, the show tells the story of Reena Virk, a fourteen-year-old girl who went to meet friends at a party one night in 1997 and never returned home. It has me thinking a lot about how awful middle school can be, bullying, and the complicated, messy dynamics between teenage girls.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of my friend Ella Dawson’s forthcoming debut novel, But How Are You, Really. Ella and I worked together in NYC in our twenties and used to talk about our dreams of becoming authors, and holding her book made me emo for our younger selves. I’ll be interviewing Ella about her experience writing the book soon, so keep an eye out for that!
I’ve been obsessed with these electrolyte packets. Turns out the electrolyte hype is real; I feel so much more energized than I did when I was just drinking plain water, especially after a workout. I love the taste (the pink lemonade is my favorite) and putting one in my water bottle in the morning makes me feel like I’m taking good care of myself. They also don’t have any added sugars or artificial sweeteners so they aren’t overly sweet like other options I’ve tried.
What have you been into these days?
Xx
Sarah
I’m so excited for Ella’s book and your interview with her! Glad you’re enjoying the downtime when you can 🫶🏽
While I am not a mother and do still drink, I love so so much of your content.
Under the Bridge - the acting is so good I cant watch... I just couldn't get through the last episode because my heart HURT for her parents. And as you mentioned, that mean girl time growing up... I'm terrified of her two mean girl friends.
Also obsessed with anything to spice up my water. I have been on the LMNT kick, but going to give these a try as well.
Love listening to you be a guest on Cameron's podcast.
